ThPA S.A. signs contract to expand Pier 6

ThPA S.A. and the joint venture “METKA S.A. – TEKAL S.A. (PIER 6) J/V” signed the construction contract for the expansion of Pier 6 at the Port of Thessaloniki. The signing took place at ThPA S.A.’s headquarters. Dr. Ioannis Tsaras, Mr. Dinos Benroubi, and Ms. Argyro Psaltakou signed on behalf of their organizations. The agreement launches the port’s largest upgrade project to date.

The project is part of Mandatory Enhancements No. 1 under the Concession Agreement with the Hellenic Republic. It includes a 513-meter extension of Pier 6, a width of 306.5 meters, and deep dredging of the navigation channel and maneuvering area. These works will allow the port to berth Ultra Large Container Vessels safely.

Construction now moves into its main phase. The project will take 40 months and cost €195.6 million. It will create major economic benefits at local and national levels from the very start of construction.

Once completed, the Port of Thessaloniki will:

• Handle more container vessels at the same time
• Serve ULCVs of up to 24,000 TEU
• Increase its terminal capacity from 650,000 to 1.5 million TEU
• Strengthen its regional competitiveness and connectivity

ThPA S.A. will finance the project through its own capital and bank loans. Loan terms will be set soon, supported by the company’s strong financial position.

The expansion marks a major milestone in ThPA S.A.’s growth since 2018. It will help establish the port as a key transit hub for Southeast Europe and deliver long-term economic value.

Dr. Ioannis Tsaras, CEO, ThPA S.A.
“The expansion of Pier 6 signals a new era for the port. It boosts our capacity, supports the logistics ecosystem, and delivers significant benefits for Greece. I thank all partners for their cooperation.”

Mr. Dinos Benroubi, Vice Chairman and CEO, METKA ATE
“This contract is a major milestone for both sides. We will deliver the project on time and with respect for the environment and the local community. The expansion reflects a shared vision for growth and stronger connectivity across the region.”
