Vizhinjam International Seaport has received final customs approval to begin handling import and export cargo, expanding its operations beyond transshipment, according to DynaLiners.
Until now, the Indian terminal had been restricted to handling transshipment containers.
The terminal is owned by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ). MSC has also agreed to acquire a 49% stake in the facility.
Vizhinjam was commissioned in 2024. The terminal handled 1.29 million TEUs during 2025.
The customs approval marks another step in the terminal’s development as it expands its role in India’s container market.
