The Port of Savannah handled 503,739 TEUs in July 2026, an increase of 5.7% compared with the same month last year.
The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) reported a year-on-year gain of 27,051 TEUs as the port began its 2027 fiscal year with growth in both imports and exports.
Exports reached nearly 115,000 TEUs, up 7.7% or more than 8,200 TEUs from July 2025.
Imports also increased, reaching 251,888 TEUs. This represents growth of 5%, or approximately 12,300 TEUs, compared with the previous year.
“We’re pleased to start fiscal year 2027 in positive territory for both import and export cargo. Our August volumes on the water also look strong,” said Griff Lynch, CEO, Georgia Ports Authority.
Truck activity remained high at the Port of Savannah during July.
The port handled nearly 15,000 truck transactions per day across import and export moves.
Average truck turn times stood at 31 minutes for a single-container move and 51 minutes for a dual move.
Nearly 80% of truck transactions at Garden City Terminal involved dual moves.
“We want to recognize the important role our trucking community plays in the success of our port every day,” said Kevin Price, President, Georgia Ports Authority.
“We focus on our truck gate efficiency to make sure drivers’ port visits run smoothly,” added Price.
Road connectivity to the port also improved during the month. The Georgia Department of Transportation opened the Brampton Road Connector on 15 July.
The $126 million, four-lane highway connects Garden City Terminal’s Gate 3 directly with the Interstate 16 corridor.
The Appalachian Regional Port (ARP) recorded its highest-ever monthly volume in July.
The rail-connected inland port in Crandall, Georgia, handled 4,800 containers. This represents a 41% increase from July 2025.
Volumes increased by nearly 1,400 containers year on year, supported by new customers and additional business from existing users.
The facility also closed fiscal year 2026 with record annual traffic.
ARP handled 49,319 containers between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026. This was nearly 20% higher than the previous fiscal year, representing an increase of more than 8,100 containers.
Meanwhile, GPA’s new $134 million Gainesville Inland Port opened in May.
Rail activity at Savannah’s Mason Mega Rail Terminal also increased in July.
The terminal handled 44,981 rail lifts during the month, up 2% from July 2025.
According to GPA, import containers move from vessels to outbound trains in an average of 20 hours.
The Port of Brunswick recorded growth in auto imports during July.
Auto imports reached 51,704 units, up 5.3% year on year.
Drivable machinery performed even better. Combined import and export volumes increased 24.4% to 2,465 units.
However, lower vehicle exports pushed total auto trade down 4.5% to 61,756 units.
Combined automobile and heavy machinery volumes reached 67,881 units. This was 1.6% lower than in July 2025.
