PD Ports has strengthened its Marine operations with the introduction of New Vision, a versatile rapid response vessel designed to support a range of operational and environmental activities across the Ports of Tees and Hartlepool.
The vessel was originally acquired as an open deck boat without a wheelhouse and subsequently adapted to the specific requirements of the Marine and Engineering team in collaboration with a naval architect.
Measuring 8 metres in length and weighing 3.4 tonnes, New Vision is capable of reaching 36 knots, providing rapid response capability for environmental incidents and operational demands on the water.
The vessel carries Category 4 certification, allowing operations up to 20 miles from the coast in daylight hours, representing significant operational reach for a vessel of its size.
The enclosed wheelhouse enables operations to continue in challenging weather conditions, and the modern interior is equipped with a comprehensive navigation package including radar and radio systems.
Power is provided by a 300hp OXE diesel outboard engine utilising BMW diesel technology adapted for marine use, distinguishing the vessel from the majority of outboard-powered craft which run on petrol.
The hull is constructed from high-density polyethylene, offering durability and impact resistance against the routine contact encountered in port environments.
New Vision will support marine activities including the deployment of pollution control equipment such as booms, skimmers and oil spill response gear, as well as broader safety boat operations.
Chris Stocks, Marine Director at PD Ports, described maintaining safe and efficient operations as the primary responsibility of the Statutory Harbour Authority, and highlighted the vessel’s capability to provide a highly capable environmental incident response when time is critical.
