The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas handled 17,480,520 tonnes of commercial cargo through July 2026, an increase of 14% from the same period in 2025.
The Mexican port also recorded 1,049 vessel calls during the reported period.
Containerised cargo accounted for 49% of the port’s total throughput. Mineral bulk represented 36%, while general cargo contributed 5%.
Vehicles, agricultural bulk, petroleum products and other liquid cargoes accounted for the remaining 10%.
Container throughput reached 1,582,996 TEUs, representing growth of 7% compared with the same period in 2025.
Imports and exports each accounted for 25% of container traffic. Transshipment operations represented the remaining 50%.
Road transport handled 72% of container movements to and from the port, while rail accounted for 28%.
The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas handled 378,347 vehicles during the period.
Imports represented 70% of automotive traffic, while exports accounted for 28%. Transshipments contributed the remaining 2%.
The port attributed its performance across different cargo segments to its infrastructure, connectivity and coordination within the port community.
