Port of Los Angeles extends Yusen Terminals lease through 2056

The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved a new 30-year lease with Yusen Terminals at the Port of Los Angeles.

The agreement will keep the marine terminal operator at the port through 2056. It will also support an additional US$200 million investment in zero-emission cargo-handling equipment.

Under the approved lease, Yusen Terminals will invest an additional US$200 million in zero-emission equipment during the coming years.

The terminal already operates several types of zero-emission and hydrogen fuel-cell equipment. These include electric top handlers, forklifts and yard tractors.

“We greatly value our longstanding partnership with Yusen Terminals and the role they play in the success of our port,” said Gene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles.

“Their commitment to excellence and willingness to work closely with us have been invaluable, especially in advancing our clean air initiatives,” he added.

“When we called on terminals to test and incorporate zero-emission equipment, Yusen Terminals immediately stepped up,” Seroka continued.

Yusen Terminals has operated at the Port of Los Angeles since 1991.

The facility covers 232 acres at Berths 212-224. It is located north of the Vincent Thomas Bridge along the port’s East Basin Channel.

The company provides stevedoring, terminal operations and specialised cargo-handling services.

Yusen Terminals also participates in several Port of Los Angeles clean-air initiatives and maintains community partnerships across the Los Angeles Harbor area.

“We’re proud of the operation we’ve built at the Port of Los Angeles and excited about what lies ahead,” said Alan McCorkle, President and CEO of Yusen Terminals.

“This agreement gives us the long-term certainty to continue investing in our terminal, our people and new technology while providing the reliable service our customers expect,” he added.

“We look forward to building on our partnership with the port for decades to come,” McCorkle concluded.

Yusen Terminals is owned by Ocean Network Express. The terminal operator will celebrate its 35th anniversary at the Port of Los Angeles later in 2026.
