Singapore and Brazil have signed an agreement to establish a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) between the two countries.
The partnership will focus on maritime decarbonisation, alternative marine fuels and digital solutions for shipping and port operations.
Singapore’s Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports Tomé Franca signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The Singapore-Brazil corridor will combine the strengths of the two countries to develop zero- and near-zero greenhouse gas emission marine fuels.
Brazil has significant renewable energy resources and production capabilities. These could support the production of alternative fuels for the maritime industry.
Singapore, meanwhile, is the world’s largest bunkering port and a major international shipping hub.
The two countries plan to use these strengths to support the development of alternative marine fuel supply chains.
Digitalisation will form another key part of the partnership.
Singapore and Brazil will explore the exchange of digital information to improve maritime and port operations.
They will also work with shipping and maritime companies on new technologies.
The cooperation will cover the research, development and adoption of emerging maritime solutions.
The corridor is expected to support more sustainable and efficient shipping between the two countries while encouraging wider cooperation between government and industry.
