Ray-Mont Logistics, Canadian National Railway and the Prince Rupert Port Authority have opened the $750 million CANXPORT export logistics facility.
Located at the Port of Prince Rupert, the new hub will expand rail-to-container transloading capacity for Canadian exporters.
Montreal-based Ray-Mont Logistics will operate CANXPORT.
CANXPORT will initially provide up to 400,000 TEUs of annual rail-to-container transloading capacity.
The facility could eventually increase its capacity to 750,000 TEUs for bulk and breakbulk commodities.

The facility aims to connect Western Canadian exporters with customers in international markets.
“CANXPORT is an investment in Canada’s trade future, creating jobs, expanding export capacity and connecting Canadian products to global markets,” said Kurt Slocombe, President and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority.
“This facility strengthens the Port of Prince Rupert as a world-class gateway while creating lasting economic opportunities for communities across Canada,” he added.
Canadian National Railway invested in the expansion of the Zanardi Rapids Bridge to support CANXPORT.
The project will increase rail corridor capacity and strengthen the Port of Prince Rupert’s intermodal network.

“CN’s investments in Prince Rupert, including the Zanardi Rapids Bridge Project, expand capacity and enhance the competitiveness of this important gateway,” she added.
The Canada Infrastructure Bank supported CANXPORT with a $150 million loan.
The financing represented the bank’s first investment in a Canadian port project.
Transport Canada’s National Trade Corridors Fund contributed almost $50 million.
The Province of British Columbia also provided $25 million through its Stronger BC programme.
“The CIB’s $150 million investment enabled new trade capacity, created long-term jobs for Indigenous and local communities and strengthens Canada’s ability to compete in global markets,” said Ehren Cory, CEO of the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
“By improving the movement of goods, CANXPORT will support economic growth and productivity for years to come,” he added.
Indigenous partners participated in the development and operation of CANXPORT.
The Prince Rupert Port Authority awarded the main site development contract to a joint venture involving:
Metlakatla and Lax Kw’alaams are also majority owners of Gat Leedm Logistics, the main provider of truck drayage services at the Port of Prince Rupert.
“CANXPORT is a powerful example of what can be achieved when Indigenous Nations are active partners in economic development,” said Chief Robert Nelson of the Metlakatla First Nation.
“The Metlakatla First Nation played a direct role in bringing this facility to life by leading its construction together with our joint venture partners,” he added.
CANXPORT is the first of several major developments planned under a $3 billion expansion of the Prince Rupert Gateway.
The Port of Prince Rupert is Canada’s third-largest port and has the deepest natural harbour in North America.
The port shipped $8.1 billion of Canadian exports in 2025.
Cargo throughput reached 26.3 million tonnes during the year, representing an increase of 14% from 2024.
The gateway currently supports approximately 7,940 full-time jobs across British Columbia. These positions generate $690 million in annual wages.
The port also contributes $1.5 billion to Canada’s gross domestic product.
