The Port of Helsinki handled 791,330 units of unitised cargo in the first eight months of 2026, a 5.8% increase year-on-year, with total unitised cargo tonnage reaching 8.4 million tonnes, up 3.6%.
Container traffic has been particularly active, outperforming the same period last year.
The recovery in unitised cargo has followed a sequential pattern, with exports showing improvement from late 2025 and imports beginning to recover in the first half of 2026.
Port officials noted that cargo flow data at Finnish ports tends to lead broader economic statistics, suggesting that Finland’s economic growth is gathering pace ahead of confirmation in trade figures compiled from buyers and sellers.
