Cargo volumes rise at Ports of Stockholm

Ports of Stockholm cargo volumes increased across every major segment during the first half of 2026.

The port operator recorded growth in container traffic, bulk cargo, ferry-borne freight and rail wagons compared with the same period in 2025.

Container traffic increased by 14% year on year, while bulk cargo volumes rose by 6%.

Ferry-borne freight increased by 3.4% to approximately 3.1 million tonnes.

“The positive development in both container and Ro-Ro traffic demonstrates the important role of shipping in supplying goods to the region,” said Johan Wallén, Chief Commercial Officer at Ports of Stockholm.

“Transporting more freight by sea creates the conditions for efficient and sustainable transport flows to and from Stockholm,” he added.

The number of rail wagons increased by 17% to almost 3,400. However, this figure does not yet include data for the latest quarter.

Ports of Stockholm is one of Sweden’s largest freight ports and one of the world’s largest passenger ports. More than seven million tonnes of cargo pass through its ports annually.

The port system also handles more than seven million ferry and cruise passengers each year.
