The redevelopment of the former CIVAM area at the Port of Vibo Valentia Marina is accelerating following the approval of the Executive Project for demolition by Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Sea Port Authority President Paolo Piacenza.
The EUR€1.5 million project will transform the currently disused industrial warehouse into new commercial logistics yards adjacent to the Bengasi dock, with the tender process to be finalised by August and construction targeted to begin in the first half of October 2026.
The project forms part of the 2026-2028 Three-Year Operational Plan adopted by the Management Committee in June and sits within a broader development strategy for Vibo Valentia Marina aimed at improving port infrastructure efficiency, strengthening navigation safety and reinforcing the relationship between the port and the surrounding urban area.
The speed of progression from inclusion in the three-year plan to executive design approval within two months reflects the Authority’s stated commitment to rapidly translating planning into construction.
The demolition of the former CIVAM building will be followed by the redevelopment of the reclaimed area into functional logistics yards serving the port’s operational and commercial needs, in a strategic position near the Bengasi dock.
President Piacenza described the project as more than a simple redevelopment of a degraded area, characterising it as a concrete investment in the port’s development that will increase operational capacity, create conditions for the growth of port activities and enhance both the tourist potential and the broader urban context of Vibo Valentia Marina.
