DP World to develop two terminals at Fujairah

DP World has reached an agreement in principle with the Fujairah Ports Authority for a 50-year concession to develop two new terminals on the UAE’s east coast, expanding its national gateway network and providing customers with greater flexibility and connectivity across regional and global trade routes.

The development comprises the Al Rugaylat container and multi-purpose terminal and the Dibba General Cargo terminal, both located on the Gulf of Oman.

Al Rugaylat is designed to handle up to 2.5 million TEUs annually alongside 1.7 million tonnes of general cargo and 190,000 Car Equivalent Units, while Dibba will add up to 3.6 million tonnes of annual general cargo capacity.

The new terminals will be capable of accommodating the latest generation of Ultra Large Container Vessels, establishing a new deep-water trade gateway on the UAE’s east coast.

Once operational, the development will increase DP World’s total container handling capacity in the UAE from 19.4 million TEUs to almost 22 million TEUs, while significantly expanding general cargo and RoRo capability.

Construction is expected to take approximately 24 to 30 months from commencement, with development delivered in phases.

The terminals will be connected to Jebel Ali through DP World’s inland logistics network and integrated with Jafza, extending the company’s end-to-end supply chain across the UAE and enabling more efficient cargo movement between ports, logistics hubs and end markets.

With Jebel Ali operating at high utilisation, the Fujairah development provides additional long-term capacity to support continued growth.

H.H. Sheikh Saleh Bin Mohamed Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Ports Authority, described the partnership as an important milestone in Fujairah’s development as a leading regional maritime gateway, bringing world-class operating capability and new investment to the emirate.

Essa Kazim, Chairman of DP World, framed the investment as a reflection of the company’s confidence in the UAE’s future as a global trade and logistics hub, deepening a partnership spanning more than four decades.

Group CEO Yuvraj Narayan characterised the Fujairah development as complementary to Jebel Ali within a single integrated global platform, delivering greater supply chain flexibility and resilience for cargo owners.

Captain Mousa Murad, Managing Director of the Fujairah Ports Authority, highlighted the combination of Fujairah’s strategic location and DP World’s operational expertise as the foundation for modern, efficient terminals meeting the highest international standards.
