The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and the China Classification Society have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen collaboration in maritime decarbonisation, digitalisation and talent development.
The renewal took place during the Sixth North Bund International Shipping Forum in Shanghai, building on the partnership established in 2023.
Since 2023, MPA and CCS have collaborated with local research and industry partners on projects spanning the use of B100 biofuel on harbour craft and the evaluation, testing and verification of smart ships.
Under the renewed agreement, the two organisations will expand research and development cooperation on decarbonisation encompassing green fuel value chains, marine electrification and energy efficiency technologies for vessels.
Collaboration on digital and smart ship initiatives will also deepen, including digital testing and risk assessment for autonomous vessels to support maritime research and innovation.
Both organisations will additionally collaborate on talent development through programmes including the MPA Global Internship Awards, the MaritimeONE Scholarship Programme and internships and attachments providing students and aspiring maritime professionals with exposure to international maritime companies and industry practices.
Ang Wee Keong, Chief Executive of MPA, described the renewal as building on the partnership to advance a more sustainable and innovative maritime sector through expertise exchange and collaborative development of decarbonisation and digitalisation solutions alongside nurturing the future maritime workforce.
Zhao Yan, Chairman and President of CCS, highlighted CCS’s ambition to make Singapore its most comprehensive overseas maritime technology centre and one-stop integrated service platform, framing the strengthened partnership as jointly advancing research and contributing to a robust, future-ready maritime ecosystem.
