The Port of Melbourne handled 291,000 TEUs in June 2026, a 7.3% increase compared with the same month last year.
Growth was driven by higher import, export and transhipment volumes.
Full imports, excluding Bass Strait traffic, reached 117,000 TEUs, up 7.5% year-on-year. Full exports increased 4.2% to 56,000 TEUs.
Full transhipment volumes recorded the strongest growth, rising 66.5% to 22,000 TEUs. Bass Strait container traffic increased 16.6% to 21,000 TEUs.
Empty container volumes declined 2.9% to 75,000 TEUs.
For the 2025/26 financial year, total container throughput reached 3.52 million TEUs, up 3.8% from the previous financial year.
The port handled 1.40 million TEUs of full imports during the financial year, an increase of 4%, while full exports remained stable at 690,000 TEUs. Empty container volumes rose 7.3% to 987,000 TEUs.
Outside the container sector, the port handled 2.03 million revenue tonnes of non-containerised cargo in June, up 0.6% year-on-year.
Motor vehicle volumes increased 9.2% to 816,000 revenue tonnes, while liquid bulk cargo rose 1.1% to 401,000 revenue tonnes.
However, dry bulk volumes fell 23.3% to 387,000 revenue tonnes. Break bulk cargo increased 45% to 107,000 revenue tonnes, and other cargo rose 8.2% to 324,000 revenue tonnes.
For the financial year, total non-container trade reached 24.84 million revenue tonnes, up 1.1% compared with FY2025.
