Ports of Stockholm has inaugurated a new port facility at Stockholm Norvik Port designed for the efficient loading of crushed rock aggregates onto bulk carriers, enabling large volumes of material generated during the port’s original construction to be shipped by sea to infrastructure projects across the Baltic Sea region.
The facility, built for NCC Industry and consisting of two pile-supported jetties capable of accommodating large bulk carriers, was officially inaugurated on October 16, though shipments had already begun in response to strong market demand.
The removal of the stockpiled crushed rock will progressively free up significant areas within Stockholm Norvik Port, providing the foundation for new businesses and marking the starting point for NCC Industry’s planned business and logistics park.
The initiative strengthens Stockholm Norvik’s position as a key logistics hub for Swedish imports and exports, complementing its role as Sweden’s newest modern RoRo and container port serving the country’s largest consumer market.
Johan Wallén, Chief Commercial Officer at Ports of Stockholm, described the new facility as an important step in the port’s development, enabling more efficient aggregate shipments while unlocking valuable port space for new commercial activity.
He highlighted the strategic location and extensive development areas as creating favourable conditions for businesses requiring efficient logistics solutions, with further development of the area to be pursued in partnership with NCC Industry.
The facility also opens new opportunities to ship aggregates to additional markets beyond the Baltic Sea region.
