Port of Oakland cargo throughput remained largely unchanged month on month in July, although volumes declined compared with the same period in 2025.
The port handled 179,999 TEUs during July, remaining broadly stable from June. Full imports increased by 1.7% month on month, while full exports declined by 7.9%.
Compared with July 2025, total container throughput fell by 11.4%.
Full imports reached 79,426 TEUs, down 14% year on year. Full exports declined by 8.5% to 60,005 TEUs.
Combined loaded container traffic totalled 139,431 TEUs, representing a decrease of 11.7%.
Empty container movements fell by 10.2% to 40,568 TEUs.
The Port of Oakland handled 1,294,664 TEUs between January and July, down 3.8% from the same period in 2025.
Loaded cargo volumes remained broadly stable, declining by 1.5%. Full exports increased by 0.4%, while full imports fell by 3.1%.
The decrease in overall throughput largely reflected fewer empty container movements. Empty volumes declined by 11.4% during the seven-month period.
“July was a challenging month compared to last year, but our laden volumes remain essentially flat year to date and exports are slightly ahead of 2025,” said Jason Garben, Acting Maritime Director at the Port of Oakland.
“Despite uncertainty in the market, we are hearing a positive outlook from our ocean carrier partners for the remainder of the year,” he added.
The port recorded 81 vessel calls in July, compared with 95 calls during the same month last year.
