Alexandria Port explores enhanced maritime cooperation with port of Barcelona

The Alexandria Port Authority has received a Spanish delegation comprising representatives from the Port of Barcelona, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the Mercabarna market, in a meeting aimed at strengthening Egyptian-Spanish relations and fostering cooperation in maritime transport, trade and logistics across the Mediterranean.

The Egyptian side was represented by the Authority’s Vice Chairman for Operations, the Vice Chairman for Investment and other senior officials, alongside representatives from the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce in Alexandria.

Discussions focused on expanding collaboration between Alexandria and its Spanish counterparts, with the aim of broadening trade exchange, sharing expertise and exploring joint projects serving the economic interests of both countries.

The Egyptian side proposed the development of a joint Memorandum of Understanding to define areas of collaboration, implementation mechanisms and the exchange of expertise, building upon existing cooperation with the Port of Barcelona and formalising the partnership between the two ports.

Participants also explored ways to enhance communication between ports and business entities, leveraging the operational and logistical capabilities of both Egyptian and Spanish ports to foster trade, encourage investment and develop maritime transport and supply chain services across the Mediterranean.

The meeting included an overview of the Port of Alexandria’s current development projects, operational and logistical capacities and future vision, followed by a site tour of the port.

Both sides concluded by reaffirming their commitment to continued coordination, pledging to translate the identified opportunities into practical initiatives and projects that strengthen the Egyptian-Spanish partnership in maritime transport and logistics.
