The Port of Gdańsk handled 65.2 million tonnes of cargo between January and September 2026, compared with 59.1 million tonnes in the same period of 2025, an increase of more than 10%.
General cargo, and containerised cargo in particular, accounted for the largest share of the growth.
General cargo totalled 23.5 million tonnes, 3.6 million tonnes or 18 per cent more than a year earlier. Containerised cargo reached 21.1 million tonnes, up 17.6%, while container throughput rose 21% from just over 2 million to nearly 2.5 million TEUs.
Coal handling grew 36 per cent to 6.7 million tonnes, an additional 1.8 million tonnes, and grain rose 33 per cent to 2.1 million tonnes, more than half a million tonnes above the previous year.
The only category to decline was other bulk cargo, which fell 1.5 per cent to 2.8 million tonnes.
Liquid fuels remain the largest cargo group, representing around 45% of all cargo with 29.4 million tonnes, a level similar to the previous year.
General cargo accounts for over 36% volumes and coal for around 10%.
Dorota Pyć, President of the Management Board of the Port of Gdańsk, attributed the result to favourable conditions in key market segments, rising containerised volumes and stable fuel handling, which confirms the port’s importance for Poland’s energy security.
She said the continued development of infrastructure and operational capacity remains the priority, so that the port can respond flexibly to changing market conditions and strengthen its position within international supply chains as the leading port of the Baltic Sea region.
