Chile’s Committee of Ministers has maintained the favourable environmental approval for the US$4 billion San Antonio Outer Port project.
The committee reviewed administrative appeals against the project during its twelfth session under the government of President José Antonio Kast.
The authorities partially accepted some of the claims relating to the port development. However, the project’s favourable Environmental Qualification Resolution remains in place.
The San Antonio Outer Port project involves the construction and operation of new port infrastructure along the southern coast of the San Antonio municipality in Chile’s Valparaíso Region.
The development includes two new port terminals. It also covers the expansion of the existing G-908 highway and upgrades to sections of the railway network serving the port area.
The project represents an estimated investment of US$4 billion.
Chile’s authorities reviewed the port project alongside the US$250 million Los Portones Wind Farm. Together, the two developments represent US$4.25 billion in planned investment.
The Committee of Ministers has reviewed appeals involving 28 projects during the government’s first eight months in office. These projects represent a combined estimated investment of almost US$22 billion.
