Pilbara Ports handles 63.8 million tonnes in July

Pilbara Ports recorded total monthly throughput of 63.8 million tonnes in July 2026, representing a 1% decrease compared with the same month last year.

The result was driven primarily by the Port of Port Hedland, which handled 45 million tonnes, while the Port of Dampier recorded throughput of 14.7 million tonnes.

The Port of Port Hedland’s total monthly throughput of 45 million tonnes was 4% lower year-on-year, according to Pilbara Ports.

Iron ore exports accounted for 44.2 million tonnes of the port’s July volumes. Detailed port statistics show total iron ore exports of 44,224,980 tonnes during the month.

China remained by far the largest destination for Port Hedland’s iron ore, receiving approximately 37.86 million tonnes in July. Other destinations included South Korea with 2.28 million tonnes, Japan with 2.06 million tonnes and Vietnam with 1.01 million tonnes.

Overall exports from Port Hedland reached approximately 44.78 million tonnes across commodities including iron ore, manganese ore, salt, spodumene concentrate, copper concentrates, general cargo and containers.

Imports through Port Hedland totalled 250,000 tonnes, up 4% compared with July 2025. Detailed statistics put discharged cargo at 249,803.94 tonnes, of which hydrocarbons accounted for 201,385 tonnes.

The Port of Dampier delivered 14.7 million tonnes of throughput during July, an increase of 3% from the corresponding month in 2025.

Detailed figures show throughput of 14,691,953 tonnes, including 14,577,198 tonnes of exports and 114,754 tonnes of imports.

Iron ore dominated Dampier’s cargo mix, with 12.59 million tonnes handled during July, accounting for 85.67% of total cargo. LNG contributed approximately 1.45 million tonnes, while salt volumes reached 358,311 tonnes and condensate stood at 145,246 tonnes.

Imports through Dampier reached around 115,000 tonnes, increasing 17% year-on-year.

Pilbara Ports noted that monthly throughput can fluctuate due to factors including market and weather conditions, port maintenance operations and changing customer requirements.
