Port of Lázaro Cárdenas posts cargo growth through July 2026

The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas handled 17,480,520 tonnes of commercial cargo through the close of July 2026, a 14% increase compared to the same period in 2025, with 1,049 vessel arrivals recorded during the period.

Containerised cargo accounted for 49% of total throughput, mineral bulk 36% and general cargo 5%, with the remaining 10% comprising vehicles, agricultural bulk, petroleum fluids and other fluids.

Container throughput reached 1,582,996 TEUs, a 7% increase year-on-year, evenly split between imports and exports at 25% each, with transshipment operations accounting for the remaining 50%.

Road transport handled 72% of cargo clearance and rail the remaining 28%.

The automotive sector recorded 378,347 units moved, with 70% corresponding to imports, 28% to exports and 2% to transshipment, reinforcing the port’s role as a significant vehicle distribution hub within Mexico.
